The animal eats mostly shrubs and bushes that are low to the ground. The most most commonly known herbivore of these islands is the Galápagos Tortoise. This means that it constricts its prey, and then eats it. One species of snake on the Galápagos is a Hood racer. Also there are many carnivores, such as snakes. For example, the Galápagos Tortoise is a very common herbivore. There are many species on the Galápagos Islands, even though it might not seem like it. The warm season has more rainfall, but has a hot, humid climate. The difference between these two seasons are that the dry season has barely any rain at all, the leaves start disappearing on trees, and more cacti start growing. This helps because then predators think that they are a threat to them.Īs you can see, the hottest month is in February. The Lava Lizards have a threatening appeal to them though. The Galapagos Gecko blends into the rocks, giving easy camouflage. Most prey on the Galapagos are rodents, or small reptiles. Predation is where animals hunt their prey. This animal's prey includes mice and fish, but they also kill birds like themselves. The real predators of the islands are actually mostly birds.Some of them are the Frigate birds, the Galápagos hawk, and the Galápagos short eared owl. These animals are not predators though, they are actually one of the most docile creatures on the islands. ![]()
